TANGIER-Norma Jean Cruse, 81, of Tangier, Indiana died at 5:10 am Monday, April 10, 2017 at The Waters of Covington. She was employed by Chesty Chips in Terre Haute, Canton Glass in Marian, Parke County Landfill, an Avon representative, owner of Norma's Market in Tangier from 1980 to 1987 and a clerk/phone receptionist for Mel Cruse Auctions.
She was born June 4, 1935 in Howard, Indiana to the late Kelly E. Little and Opal N. Marshall Little.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Melvin L. Cruse whom she married June 4, 1955 in Howard; also surviving, two sons, Mike (Christy) Cruse of Sylvania and Steve (Cheryl) Cruse of Perrysville; one brother, Dean (Bev) Little of Sylvania; two sisters, LaVeta Millikan of Tangier and Lila (Rich) Ritz of Winter Haven, Florida; brother in law, Max Cruse of Martinsville, Illinois; sister in law, Sandra Little of Champaign, Illinois; ten grandchildren, Michael L.(Dana) Cruse, Casey (Billy) Cruse, Seth Cruse, Ryan Cruse, Amanda (Taylor) Cruse, Montana (Tanya) Faulkner, Samantha Faulkner, Christa (John) Doolin, Cara (Jeff) Tolbert, Courtney Tolbert; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Deborah Lynn Cruse; two brothers, Joe and Kelly L. Little; sister, Linda Collings; two brothers in law, John Millikan and Jim Collings; sister in law, Judy Sutherlin.
She was a 1953 graduate of Tangier High School. She was a member of the Rush Creek Friends Church, Howard Ladies Aide, Tangier Home Ec club and Order of the Easter Star Fountain chapter 204 in Kingman, serving as Worthy Matron in 1980. Music was a big part of her life and she was offered a position with Bobby Helms and Joe Edwards traveling and performing on WTTV channel four music program. She was chosen to sing at the dedication of Turkey Run High School in 1957. She and Mel were active square dancers for more than 50 years. She enjoyed watching her sons play and sing, loved to play Bingo and singing at many churches and nursing homes.
Services will be 10:00 am Thursday, April 13, at Gooch Funeral Home, 112 W. Howard Street, Rockville with Pastors Carl Huxford and Doug Newnum officiating. Burial will follow in Rosedale Cemetery. Visitation is from 4-8 pm Wednesday, with an O.E.S. Memorial service held at 8:00 pm at Gooch Funeral Home.
