Obituary for Dorothy Hobson Krumm

MARSHALL- Dorothy Hobson Krumm, 101, passed away peacefully Saturday April 14th at her home in Marshall, Indiana. She was born June 5, 1916 in Chicago was the daughter of Leo and Celia Brodkin. One of seven children. She is survived by two children, Royden Hobson and Dr. Donnis Hobson , four grandchildren, Rebecca MacLaren, Donnis Dolso, Allan Perry and Shelia Forrester; five great-grandchildren, Jessica Marshall, Amanda MacLaren, Max Dolso-Morey, Brady Forrester and Perry Forrester. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sheila Dolsot in 1980. She graduated with a degree in English from DePaul University. While working at Walgreens in Chicago she met her future husband. She taught English, dance, and drama in Mississippi and Florida during the 1940’s while living close by where her future husband was stationed for basic training. In 1945 Dorothy married Roy L. Hobson who was originally from Marshall, Indiana. Upon his return from the war in Europe they married in New Orleans. They lived in Winnetka, Illinois until his death in 1968. She contributed in building their companies Rhoden manufacturing and Hobson Bros. as well as raising their three children. She married her second husband Phillip Krumm in 1970 who became president of the United States Olympic Committee from 1973-1977 and lived in Kenosha, Wisconsin. She helped with all the social activities associated with his job and traveled the world extensively. They moved to Colorado Springs in 1978 to be close to the newly established National Olympic training center. Upon Phils death in 1988 she moved to her vacation home in Sun Valley, Idaho, where back in 1975 she helped with her eldest daughter and son in law Beppy and Shelia Dolsot establish the Hobson memorial Ski Race in memory of her first husband and later in loving memory of her eldest daughter. In her later years she lived with her son in Rancho Mirage , California moving with him back to the family farm when the Cabins at Hobson Farms opened. Dorothy enjoyed all sports but especially skiing and shooting, was an avid and knowledgeable collector of antiques. She had a great intuition in investing in real estate. She enjoyed children immensely. A person who loved life and would do anything she could for anyone. Services will be 2:00 pm Sunday, April 22, at Gooch Funeral Home, Rockville . Burial will follow at Poplar Grove Cemetery in Marshall. Visitation will be 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm Sunday. Memorials should friends so desire, may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 1000 Dept 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908 in her memory.
